CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Department of Home Affairs on Friday announced that it has changed its operating hours to allow for efficiency during peak times.

Provincial manager Yusuf Simons said the move was made once the department realised more people were rushing to Home Affairs in the afternoon and on weekends, instead of early in the morning.

Simons said, "We did analysis from last year on how our service delivery demands have really changed. Clients tend to come in the afternoon and on Saturday's and because of our current hours, it's not sufficient to deal with those demands."

From 23 March, more staff will also be deployed.

The new operating hours will be from 8am to 4pm on weekdays and 8am to 12:30pm on weekends.
