In a country with abundant sunshine and problems of load shedding, solar paneled traffic lights seem like a logical solution.
The JRA's Darryl Thomas was asked why there aren't more solar intersections.
"JRA is not in the business of providing power, so from this point onwards any solar panels that go up will be an initiative of the power utility."
City Power's Sol Masolo was asked the same question.
"It is the environment of the road agency."
It's understood there is a political tug of war behind the scenes over who will benefit from money paid by corporates to sponsor the panels
