Seven people dead after lightning strikes
In two separate incidents, lightning claimed the lives of seven people in Bloemfontein and Emalahleni.
JOHANNESBURG - Six people have died and five were injured after they were struck by lightning on the N8 outside Botshabelo in the Free State.
Paramedics on Wednesday said the men, who were working on a construction site, took shelter from the rain at a nearby structure when the incident occurred.
The injured were rushed to hospital.
ER 24's Chitra Bodasing said, "ER 24 paramedics and other services arrived on scene and found the patients lying in and around the structure. Patients who sustained injuries were treated and transported to a local hospital."
At the same time, a hockey player was struck by lightning while walking out onto a hockey field with the rest of his team in Emalahleni on Tuesday.
According to Times Live, Francois Clarence was rushed to hospital but he was declared dead later that evening.
