Lindiwe Sisulu forced to withdraw “batty lunatic” comment
The minister called DA MP David Maynier a “batty lunatic” in Parliament.
CAPE TOWN - Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu on Tuesday was forced to withdraw her comments in Parliament that her political foe, Democratic Alliance (DA) Member of Parliament (MP) David Maynier is a "batty lunatic".
Sisulu criticised Maynier after he interrupted her speech to tell the National Assembly that Sisulu had "zoomed" around the country in a jet, referring to the executive chartered jet flights she took as minister of defence.
The exchange took place during a debate on a motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma on Tuesday.
Sisulu reluctantly withdrew her comment after DA chief whip John Steenhuisen objected.
"I will withdraw lunatic from these people who behave like bats and therefore I will call them batty."
In 2013, Sisulu also had to withdraw a comment she made about Maynier when she said he was "flea-infested."
