JOHANNESBURG - Service delivery protests have once again flared up at the Thembelihle informal settlement near Lenasia.

Earlier on Tuesday, residents blocked roads with burning tyres and stoned cars along the K43, near the Ahmed Kathrada Private Hospital.

Residents are demanding housing, electricity and sanitation and said they want answers from the Human Settlements MEC regarding a memorandum of grievances they submitted in November last year.

Yusuf Bulbulia from Lenasia Active Citizenry said something needed to be done to address resident's concerns.

"Something really needs to be done because residents are on the brink of cracking."

Bulbulia said protesters also allegedly threatened school children.

"There have been reports from parents that protesters have threatened to harm children from Sharicrest Primary School."

Police remain on high alert, while motorists have been urged to seek alternate routes and avoid the area.
