Muthambi defends decision to remove Hope Zinde
The SABC board claims Zinde was removed as a member after a vote of no-confidence.
CAPE TOWN - Communications Minister Faith Muthambi says she wants to put it on record that the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) board complied with legislation when it removed Hope Zinde as a member.
Weekend reports claimed Zinde was purged because she opposed the sale of the SABC's archives to MultiChoice and didn't support Hlaudi Motsoeneng's permanent appointment as the broadcaster's operations chief.
The board says Zinde was removed last week after a vote of no-confidence was passed during a meeting called to discuss the conduct of certain members amid allegations of fraud.
Muthambi says the board has acted according to the law.
"The SABC board members have complied with the said provision and Zinde was afforded an opportunity to explain her conduct, both in writing and orally."
