Gambling board's dodgy spending exposed
Probes point to irregular expenditure of R3,6mn and fruitless and wasteful expenditure of R66,000.
CAPE TOWN - Preliminary findings of a forensic investigation into the finances of the National Gambling Board have raised eyebrows.
Briefing Parliament's Trade and Industry Portfolio Committee this morning, Minister Rob Davies revealed wasteful expenditure of more than R3,6 million.
Minister Davies says the probes revealed startling results.
"There was indeed irregular expenditure of R3,6 million and fruitless and wasteful expenditure of R66,000."
Davis stressed that findings are not final.
Individuals implicated in the matter still need to be consulted and these national gambling board officials have been suspended.
Two administrators have been appointed to oversee the entity's day-to-day affairs in the interim.
