JOHANNESBURG - Two people have been killed in a plane crash in the North West.

The light aircraft went down at the defence force military base in Potchefstroom on Thursday.

It's understood the plane experienced engine failure shortly before crashing.

A police spokesperson said cops were currently on the scene.

"Two people have died at this stage, we will confirm which case will be opened at a later stage, it is suspected that there will be engine failure."
