CAPE TOWN - Marli van Breda, who survived an attack which claimed the lives of her parents and one brother, has still not made a formal statement to police.

Martin and Teresa van Breda, along with their 22-year-old son Rudi, were hacked to death in their home in January.

Marli's 20-year-old brother Henri survived the attack.

The lawyer appointed to protect Marli's best interests has told Eyewitness News the teenager has not yet made a statement to police.

She is in the second phase of her treatment after being discharged from the Vergelegen Medi-Clinic in Somerset West.

Advocate Martin Coetzee says Marli is being treated at a rehabilitation centre and is not in a position to give an account of what happened at this stage.

"Her condition is not of such a nature that she at this stage can give a comprehensive police statement."

She potentially holds the key to the investigation.

Her treatment at the rehabilitation includes speech therapy and physiotherapy.
