CAPE TOWN - Firefighters are battling yet another runaway blaze in the Cape, this time in the Jonkershoek Nature Reserve in the Stellenbosch area.

The fire was sparked on Monday afternoon and comes just days after authorities managed to bring a blaze that ravaged the South Peninsula under control.

The gates to the Jonkershoek Nature Reserve are closed with security only giving access to fire engines.

From the gate a dense cloud of smoke hovers above the mountain slope.

Members of a local running group say they frequent the nature reserve but were forced to run along the periphery from where they could see the raging fire.

"Looking at the fire from where we were, it spreads from the right hand side of the reserve, all the way to the left hand side. That's a large area that it's covering, it's not a small fire. It goes up to the cliffs."

The fire attracted curious locals wanting to take photographs but were turned away too.
