3 dead after bus plummets off cliff near Franschhoek Pass

It’s believed the 26-seater bus was carrying a group of school-children on their way to a rugby event.

CAPE TOWN - Emergency Services have confirmed three people have been killed and at 26 people have been injured after the bus they were travelling in went over a cliff near the Franschhoek Pass in the Western Cape.

It's believed the 29-seater bus was carrying a group of school-children on their way to a rugby event in Villiersdorp.

ER24 spokesman Pieter Rossouw says emergency services are still on the scene.

"Three people died and 26 were injured. Injuries ranged from minor to critical injuries. The cause of the incident still remains unknown. An update with more info will follow over the course of the day."

Motorists have been advised to avoid the pass as the road leading to it has been closed.
