CAPE TOWN - Primedia Broadcasting's KFM and Cape Talk have set up a pledge line to raise money for equipment that will assist firefighters and Wild Fire Services in battling fires that have ravaged the Cape Peninsula since Sunday.

By 1pm companies and individuals had already donated R723,800, far exceeding the initial target of R250,000.

With more than half of the City of Cape Town's Fire and Rescue staff and additional resources from other emergency services around the country having been deployed to quell the blazes, organisations and businesses based in the Mother City have been trying to raise funds in aid of volunteer firefighting staff.

Just last night, eight more houses were severely damaged, with three of them totally destroyed in the inferno. Several properties have also been destroyed in Tokai as fires swept through the area in the early hours this morning.

Around 4,000 hectares of land have also been affected.

WATCH: Inside the flames, EWN joins the firefighters.

To make donations call the hotline on 021 446 4837 or visit kfm.co.za or capetalk.co.za.
