#CapeFire: Radiothon hits R1 million mark

Primedia Broadcasting’s KFM and Cape Talk set up a pledge line to raise money to fight the blaze.

Primedia Broadcasting's KFM and Cape Talk set up a pledge line to raise money for equipment which will assist firefighters and Wild Fire Services battling fires which have ravaged the Cape Peninsula since Sunday.

By 1pm, companies and individuals had already donated R723,800 - far exceeding the initial target of R250,000.

On Tuesday night eight houses were severely damaged, with three of them totally destroyed in the inferno. Several properties have also been destroyed in Tokai as fires swept through the area in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Around 4,000 hectares of land have also been affected.

Three helicopters have been targeting the slopes of a mountain in Clovelly where flames came dangerously close to houses.

A community member described the situation as "hairy" this morning as a number of homes came close to being gutted.
