The mercury climbed to 42 degrees in an unprecedented heat wave on Tuesday.
CAPE TOWN - The South African Weather Service in Cape Town has confirmed that the high temperatures Capetonians experienced on Tuesday were the highest ever recorded.
The mercury climbed to 42 degrees in an unprecedented heat wave.
Cape Town has never been so hot, at least not since temperatures began to be officially recorded.
That was 100 years ago according to the weather office.
Meteorologist Henning Grobler says, "That's why they called it a record, it's an all-time high."
The official temperatures are recorded at the airport.
Grobler says, "It's been the warmest day that has ever been in Cape Town."
