CAPE TOWN - Stormers coach Allister Coetzee is likely to make a number of changes to his side to face the Sharks in Cape Town on Saturday.

During a press conference on Monday he said that Schalk Burger was almost certainly going to be in the match day squad. He returns from Japan on Tuesday and would be a straight replacement for the injured Michael Rhodes once he's been assessed by medical staff.

Also back in the mix are locks Jean Kleyn and Eben Etzebeth.

Coetzee said rotating players was crucial at this early stage of the competition.

"Bongi [Mbonambi] started last week and he played well and we know what we have in Scara [Ntubeni] and hopefully likewise, this week we are going to keep making sure that our fringe players continue to do a superb job. It's important that we keep on building that capacity in the squad."

Coetzee added that keeping players fresh was also important.

"I think what we're thinking about is making sure that we keep building capacity. You don't want to have a good start and slip away in the middle or towards the end. That's part of our planning."
