Gordhan to address “political dysfunctionality” in Oudtshoorn
The municipality has been the centre of a power struggle between the ANC and DA.
CAPE TOWN - The African National Congress (ANC) in the Western Cape wants Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Pravin Gordhan to intervene in what they say is "political dysfunctionality" at the Oudtshoorn Local Municipality.
The matter was discussed at the party's recent provincial executive committee meeting.
The municipality has been at the centre of a power struggle.
The ANC's Songezo Mjongile says, "We calling on Minister Gordhan to remedy this situation besides the fact that the ANC has guided this process, they did not appoint senior managers for more than a year that has had an impact on service delivery."
The Democratic Alliance's (DA's) Jaco Londt says they would welcome Gordhan's help.
"Minister Gordhan recently visited Oudtshoorn and we believe he will take the correct steps to address the problem in order to restore democracy in Oudtshoorn."
