CAPE TOWN - Ou Kaapse Weg has been re-opened to motorists after a veld fire broke in the area.

Firefighters are on the scene monitoring the blaze as strong winds continue to hamper their efforts.

The fire which broke out in the early hours of this morning has been raging high in the mountain valley between Ou Kaapse Weg and.

While no property or lives are in danger, the City's fire services' Theo Layne additional firefighters and volunteers have been recruited.

"Motorists must proceed with the utmost caution because we have got firefighting vehicles that will be traversing the road throughout the day. The fire is not fully contained yet, most of the area is still accessible to firefighting vehicles."
