Police arrest 7 in R12m Sandton drug bust

JOHANNESBURG - Police arrested seven suspects, including four Nigerians and three South Africans in major drug bust in Sandton, Johannesburg on Thursday.

The group was found with 42 kilograms of tik in a hotel room at the DaVinci Hotel and Suites after The Johannesburg Organised Crime Unit and The Hawks received a tip-off.

A police spokesperson said the narcotics were believed to be worth an estimated R12 million.

"They found 56 parcels of crystal meth, and recovered a parked vehicle. The total value of the vehicle and the crystal meth is about R12 million."

The suspects, aged between 30 and 51, are set to appear in the Randburg Magistrates Court on Monday.
