Police allegedly killed a teenager during an Acornhoek protest

A 15-year-old boy was killed during a demonstration by residents demanding water.

JOHANNESBURG - A 15-year-old boy has been shot dead, allegedly by a policeman, during a service delivery protest in Acornhoek, Mpumalanga.

The teen was killed on Thursday, during a demonstration by residents demanding the Bushbuckridge Municipality provide them with water.

Another child was shot in the leg.

The police's Leonard Hlathi said the matter had been referred to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate.

"All the firearms that were in possession of the members that were on duty during that moment have already been confiscated for the purpose of investigation, so that the investigation can be conducted freely and fair."
