JMPD impound 45 taxis in JHB CBD
Police found that taxis were operating without permits.
JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) impounded 45 taxis in the Johannesburg CBD after they were found to be operating without permits.
It's understood drivers tried to block the Rea Vaya bus lane in Booysens on Wednesday morning.
The bus drivers went on strike earlier this month following a dispute with management.
JMPD spokesperson Edna Mamonyane urged motorists to refrain from using the bus lane.
"45 taxis have been impounded and they've been taken to community safety offices. That lane has been dedicated to Rea Vaya and people must understand even if Rea Vaya is not in operation, they cannot use that lane."
