JOHANNESBURG - Shikhar Dhawan stole the show at the Melbourne Cricket Ground scoring 137 off 146 balls as India reached 307/7.

He was let off the hook by the Proteas after he was dropped by Hashim Amla when he was on 54. He added 127 runs with Virat Kohli before the latter was dismissed for 46. Ajinkya Rahane picked up where Dhawan left off with a 60 ball 79. It was a tough day for Wayne Parnell who conceded 85 runs in his nine overs. Morne Morkel was the best performing bowler, picking up 2/59 in his ten overs.

Dale Steyn's 1/55 in ten also helped minimise the damage at the back end of the innings. At some stage, India looked set for 325, but four wickets for 41 runs in the final six overs restricted them to 307.

Proteas are now batting. They've lost their first wicket, Quinton de Kock.

They are 12/1 after three overs.
