CAPE TOWN - A Northern Cape rape survivor continues to receive counselling at an undisclosed location. The matric learner was assaulted by four of his peers in his dorm room at the Landou High School in Jan Kempdorp two weeks ago.

The suspects, aged between 14 and 19, were arrested shortly after the attack. They were granted bail of R1000 each and have been suspended from school pending a court case next month.

It's believed the group of boys raped the 18-year-old victim with an object as part of a racially motivated initiation ritual.

The Northern Cape Education Department's Sydney Stander says investigations are continuing to determine the cause and establish what exactly happened.

"There's a discipline hearing that must still take place and after hearing all sides of the story, which will determine what's the most appropriate action to be taken. We can't speculate on what that outcome will be, we will wait until those disciplinary hearings are concluded."

It's reported that the group of white boys raped the black boy with a broom as part of a racially motivated initiation ritual.
