JOHANNESBURG - Limpopo police say calm has been restored to Malamulele and nearby areas after violence flared up again this week.

A shop was set alight on Tuesday, allegedly by several people who tried to break in.

A security guard was stabbed with a knife while trying to stop the group.

The police's Ronel Otto says they're monitoring the situation.

"No incidents have been reported to the police throughout yesterday, last night and throughout the morning but we're still maintaining our presence in the area."

Malamulele residents have been protesting since last month, demanding their own municipality.

The area has been on lock down, with schools and other property destroyed.
