JOHANNESBURG - Rolling blackouts will continue until 10pm, Eskom confirmed on Friday.

This as technicians work to fix problems on generators that stopped working earlier this week.

The power utility says there is a high possibility that it will implement load shedding over the weekend if demand continues to outstrip supply.

Eskom acting spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe says a number of generators affected by technical problems earlier this week have not been brought back into operation.

"Our technicians are working on them [the generators] and once they're recovered or brought back to service, that will help us stabalise the grid."

Meanwhile, Rand Water on Friday clarified that the taps won't run dry on Saturday and Sunday.

The provider announced earlier this week that it would carry out maintenance at the Eikenhof pump station which would affect supplies for 25 hours.

Rand Water now says this doesn't mean there'll be no water but rather, supply will be low.

Company spokesperson Mduduzi Mkhize says several areas will be affected, including Randburg and Soweto.

"We will be supplying water when we replace the valve. We will still be pumping but a lesser amount of water."
