Suspended Sars investigations head resigns
Johann van Loggerenberg has resigned with immediate effect.
JOHANNESBURG - Suspended head of investigations at the South African Revenue Service (Sars), Johann van Loggerenberg, has resigned with immediate effect.
Sars says it has reached an amicable agreement with van Loggerenberg and has resolved all outstanding issues with him.
Van Loggerenberg was being investigated for his alleged involvement in a rogue spy unit within Sars.
In a statement, he says he's has chosen to take responsibility and accountability for a series of events that unfolded at the unit since last year.
Sars's Luther Lebelo says they wish van Loggerenberg the best.
"Sars has accepted his resignation and hereby confirms that the parting of ways was amicable and both parties agreed to it because they believe it's in the interest of Sars. We appreciate his loyalty."
