CAPE TOWN - Bredasdorp police say a manhunt has been launched following the murder of a five-year-old girl.

Two boys found Kayde Williams's body in bushes on Monday.

It's understood she disappeared while walking to her grandmother's home the day before.

The girl's body was found two years to the day that 17-year-old Anene Booysen was brutally raped and murdered in the same town.

Yellow and blue police tape flaps in the wind at the scene where Kayde's body was discovered.

It's unclear exactly how the girl died or if she'd been sexually assaulted.

The little girl's grandmother visited the crime scene and was accompanied by trauma counsellors who could be seen consoling her.

As she walked, she kept her head down, appearing visibly distraught.

A counsellor then rubbed her back.

The child's father was also briefly at the crime scene. He too appeared distressed.

Her mother is expected to identify her body at the local mortuary on Wednesday.

On Monday, the Bredasdorp community marked the two-year anniversary since Anene Booysen was raped and left for dead.

Her killing sparked a national outcry as the shockingly high prevalence of violence against children was once again thrust into the spotlight.

The most recent crime statistics show 35 sexual offences were reported at the Bredasdorp police station over the last year.
