JOHANNESBURG - A group of Malamulele residents are stripping naked in protest of the area not being granted its own municipality.

Residents say they are fed up with poor service delivery and want to have their own municipality.

The municipal demarcation board says the community's proposal failed to meet the necessary criteria.

The community has been on lock down for three weeks now since demonstrations erupted.

Many shops and businesses have been forced to close their doors.

The police's Ronel Otto says police continue to monitor the situation.

"We are continuing patrols around the community."

Limpopo police say they will maintain a heavy presence in Malamulele.

RESIDENTS HOLD MEETING

Residents are holding meeting to plan a way forward following an announcement that the area does not qualify for its own municipality.

Malamulele task team secretary Isaac Nukeri says the residents are angry with government and will decide on the way forward at the community meeting this afternoon.
