Suspected hijackers wounded in Randburg

JOHANNESBURG - Two alleged hijackers were rushed to hospital on Tuesday after being wounded in a shootout with police.

Four of their accomplices were arrested when officers tracked the gang down at a Randburg shopping centre this afternoon.

The group is believed to have hijacked a car in Olievenhoutbosch last week.

The suspects face charges of hijacking as well as the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Officials are now trying to locate the owner of the stolen Audi SUV.

The shootout took place in the parking lot of Randburg Square shopping centre after a vehicle tracking company traced the stolen vehicle.

The suspects attempted to flee when the shootout took place.

One man is in a serious condition in hospital.
