Former SABC exec to stand trial
Thembani Mazaleni is also accused of extorting almost R300,000 from an SABC service provider.
CAPE TOWN - A former South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) marketing executive accused of defrauding the public broadcaster is expected to stand trial in Cape Town next month.
Thembani Mazaleni's case was postponed in the Bellville Specialised Commercial Crimes Court yesterday.
He is also accused of extorting almost R300,000 from an SABC service provider between 2007 and 2011.
Mazaleni is expected to plead when his trial starts on 24 February.
His duties at the public broadcaster included verifying service provider invoices submitted to the broadcaster.
The state alleges Mazaleni started borrowing money from one of them, but failed to repay the loans.
He also faces two counts of fraud involving R43,000 that he allegedly duped the SABC into paying.
