SA man confesses to being part of child porn ring
The Plettenberg Bay man was apprehended following the arrest of an alleged paedophile in Belgium.
CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Police say a Plettenberg Bay man has confessed to allegations relating to an international child porn ring.
The 37-year-old man appeared in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrates Court on Wednesday following his arrest early this week.
He was tracked down and apprehended following the arrest of an alleged paedophile in Belgium last year.
The police's Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit's Heila Niemand says, "We arrested the man after we had an interview with him. He admitted he was the person that actually possessed and distributed 10,000 child pornography images."
Through the investigations, Belgian police found the Plettenberg Bay man's internet address after coming across a cyber-meeting space for paedophiles then alerted their counterparts in South Africa.
Officers pounced on the man this week.
He will remain behind bars until his next court appearance in April.
