Cops examine motive for Pick n Pay stabbing

CAPE TOWN - Police are investigating the stabbing of three people at a Pick n Pay in Bellville in Cape Town.

A man walked into one of the retail chain's outlets on Monday and apparently started stabbing people at random with a pair of scissors.

A customer, a bakery assistant and a merchandiser were rushed to hospital.

A 45-year-old man has been arrested.

The police's FC Van Wyk says a case of attempted murder has been opened for investigation.

"The injured victims were taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention."

He says the suspect will appear in the Bellville Magistrates Court as soon as he is charged.

Meanwhile, Pick n Pay says it's in contact with the victims' families and is "deeply distressed" by the unprovoked attack.
