Suspected serial rapist, murderer to appear in court
The man, accused of a string of rapes and murders, could be linked to the Kensington murders.
CAPE TOWN - A man accused of a string of rapes and murders in Cape Town is expected to make his first court appearance today.
The suspect was arrested last week at his Gugulethu home.
He was taken into custody following an intensive investigation into the Kensington murders.
The bodies of at least six women were found in the same area between the Century City and Acacia Park train stations between February and December.
Western Cape Police Commissioner Arno Lamoer has confirmed investigators have not ruled out a possible link to the man and the Kensington murders.
Lamoer explains detectives are trying to see if the suspect could be linked to other offences.
"It's an old rape case where a woman got away and we need to follow up on these cases and we made contact with her. He was identified by the victim. Furthermore, we are waiting for our DNA results and the post-mortem results that will give a further indication on where we will go."
Last Year, Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille offered a reward of R50,000 for any information that could help the police track down a suspect.
