CAPE TOWN - Western Cape police are searching for several armed suspects who robbed a jewellery store in Tokai this morning.

Police say between seven and nine men stormed the store at the Blue Route Shopping Mall just before midday.

The suspects smashed the store's display cabinets with hammers and fled with jewellery worth an undisclosed amount.

The police's Andre Traut said "Between seven and nine armed suspects perpetrated a robbery at a jewellery store at Blue Route Mall in Tokai. No shots were fired during the incident. The suspects fled with jewellery, the value of which is yet to be determined."

This is not the first time the Blue Route Mall has been targeted by robbers.

During a spate of mall robberies across South Africa in 2014, the mall's cellphone shop was held up while men made off with several items and an undisclosed amount of cash.
