Over 200 shots fired in Manenberg
Sporadic shootouts erupted in the gang-stricken suburb on Wednesday night.
CAPE TOWN - Cape Town police and other law enforcement officials are on high alert in Manenberg on Thursday.
Officers were trying to quell tensions after sporadic shootouts erupted in the area on Wednesday night.
The situation intensified when a local gang leader was killed.
The shootout in the gang-stricken suburb ran into the early hours of Thursday morning.
A member of the Hard Livings gang was also gunned down in his car at the weekend.
The City of Cape Town's JP Smith said, "The conflict raged throughout the night and over 200 shots were fired.
"Members of the task force, the South African Police Service's Operation Combat and public order police had their hands full."
