Police say the death of 41-year-old Fidel "Castro" Odinga is being treated as unexplained.
He had been drinking with friends on Saturday night and was found dead in his bed on Sunday morning.
Police say they're investigating his final movements.
A forensic pathologist has been called in and a post-mortem will be conducted to establish the cause of death.
Fidel was seen as a possible successor to Raila.
The Odinga family received messages of condolence from bitter political rivals President Uhuru Kenyatta and Vice-President William Ruto.
There's been a violent protest around Nairobi's Kibera slum.
Protesters pelted motorists with stones and blocked roads before being dispersed by police.
