JHB EMS to assist shack fire victims
At least 20 people have been displaced following a shack fire in Zandspruit.
JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) say relief aid will be offered to 20 people who have been displaced after a shack fire in the Zandspruit informal settlement.
On Thursday morning a fire swept through the settlement, north of Johannesburg, destroying 12 homes.
Authorities say they are still investigating the cause of the blaze.
No injuries or fatalities were reported.
EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says members of the public are welcome to make donations to the affected families.
"The assistance will be in the form of blankets and food parcels. People who want to assist can contact our disaster management centre on 011 286-6000."
