CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Police Chief Arno Lamoer says SAPS officials will be out in full force going into the New Year.

Lamoer briefed the media on police readiness in Cape Town earlier today.

He says the Mother City is expecting an influx of tens of thousands of people to welcome in 2015.

Lamoer highlighted robberies, securing major events and road safety enforcement as some of the police service's main priorities.

He says more than 10,000 officers including metro police officials will be deployed across the province.

Lamoer has also urged parents to keep a close eye on their children while visiting public places such as beaches.

He adds the city centre has seen an influx of more than 100,000 over last year's New Year celebration period and even more are expected in coming days.
