JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng MEC for Community Safety Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane on Thursday issued a stern warning to taxi owners who operate unlicensed and unroadworthy vehicles.

Nkosi-Malobane visited Bara Taxi Rank yesterday where long distance taxis were being inspected.

Over 20 minibus taxis were impounded during the operation.

The MEC says taxi owners have to act responsibly.

"Majority of the taxis are not roadworthy, they don't have taxi permits. Very few drivers remained behind and took responsibility for those cars that were impounded."
