Slovo Park residents sleeping in containers & tents
More than 400 homes were destroyed when a fire broke out in the informal settlement at the weekend.
JOHANNESBURG - Slovo Park residents in Crosby say they're expecting a bleak Christmas in the wake of a massive fire that destroyed their homes.
More than 400 shacks were razed at the weekend leaving residents homeless.
While relief group, the Gift of the Givers Foundation and other organisations have provided much needed aid, residents are having to sleep in containers and tents until they can rebuild their homes.
Residents say they have nowhere to turn after losing their homes, money, clothes and ID books in the massive fire.
One woman says, "I am so sad, my shack is burnt. I don't know what to do."
While residents say they're overwhelmed by the response from Gift of the Givers and community members, they are not expecting a festive Christmas.
A community leader says the biggest problem at the moment is finding materials to rebuild,
Another concern is that some residents who left earlier this month, for their holiday, are unaware of the fire.
