CAPE TOWN - Government will work towards implementing the National Development Plan ( NDP) in 2015, Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa said on Wednesday.

He issued a contemplative Christmas message in which he says South Africans should reflect on how far we have come as a nation and the road ahead.

The deputy president says many people are spending the festive season without proper shelter, without enough food, jobs and basic services.

Ramaphosa says millions remain in poverty.

He says the entire nation has to work together to overcome the problems.

Ramaphosa adds the foundation has already been laid to address these problems though the NPD.

He says this means creating more jobs, empowering people through skills development, expanding economic infrastructure, developing sustainable communities and advancing social cohesion.
