DA wants Zulu royal house audit
King Goodwill Zwelithini’s family apparently spent the entire R54 million allocated to it.
CAPE TOWN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) on Wednesday called for a comprehensive audit of what it labelled reckless expenditure by the Zulu royal household.
King Goodwill Zwelithini's family has already apparently spent the entire R54 million allocated to it by the KwaZulu-Natal provincial government.
But the royal family wants more.
The Sunday Times reported the king spent R10,000 on his birthday cake and R120,000 on crockery alone.
The DA's Kevin Mileham says, "What we're saying is lets go through all the financials, let's go through what they have spent it on. Let's see who authorised it and whether it's legitimate expenditure or not and do a comprehensive audit over three years."
