Two arrested for cable theft

JOHANNESBURG - Police have arrested two men for cable theft in Alberton following a shootout with officers.

It's understood the duo were confronted by security guards while they were digging out copper cables.

The suspects then ran away from the scene.

Police together with a K9 unit chased the suspects and shots were fired.

The men were later arrested.

Officials managed to recover a firearm from the scene.

Gauteng police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini said, "The two suspects will appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court in two days."
