JOHANNESBURG - Three Lenasia land scam victims say they're disappointed with the sentence handed to the man who illegally sold government-owned land to them.

Former City of Johannesburg employee Sifiso Handsome Litau escaped jail time but was given three years correctional supervision and a five-year suspended sentence.

The ruling was handed down in the Johannesburg Magistrates on Thursday.

One women scammed by Litau says the magistrate should have given him a harsher sentence.

She is also not satisfied that the R20,000 owed to her has to be paid in smaller installments.

"He has to pay two of us R1,000 per month. It's going to take a while for him to pay me back."

The court ordered Litau to pay back a total of R45,000.
