Six killed in Free State truck crash
A 22-wheeler truck carrying bricks crashed into a construction site.
JOHANNESBURG - Six people have been killed in Ladybrand in the Free State after a truck ploughed through a road construction site.
Bystanders claim the 22-wheeler truck carrying bricks mowed through road signs into the site on the R26 this morning.
Paramedics say some of the workers appear to have been dragged along with the truck for several metres before it finally came to a halt.
Officials say five of the victims were declared dead on the scene while a sixth man succumbed to injuries in hospital.
One man, who is in a serious but stable condition, has been hospitalised.
ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak says, "The truck crashed into the site where people were busy working on the road. Currently forensic services are on the scene to determine the exact cause of the incident."
