PRETORIA - On World Anti-Corruption Day, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called on all nations to dismantle the high walls of the scourge that strikes hardest at the poor.

He called on the global community to come together for fairness and equity, saying the world can no longer afford corruption.

Ban Ki-moon called corruption a global phenomenon that struck hardest at the poor, hindered inclusive economic growth and robbed essential services of badly needed funds.

He said from cradle to grave, millions are touched by corruption's shadow.

As the world marks international anti-corruption day, the UN again called on people everywhere to get involved in breaking the corruption chain.

He urged every nation to ratify and implement the UN convention against corruption.
