CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town's Fire and Rescue Services has confirmed two children have died in a shack fire in Phillipi East.

The fire broke out in the early hours of this morning.

Cape Town fire's Sharon Bosch says, "We had two wooden iron structures and one dwelling affected in the fire, at this stage the cause of the fire is unknown and the scene is handed over to the police."

Another fire broke out in Philippi in the Kosovo informal settlement.

Bosch says one man died.

"We had approximately 80 to 100 tracks that were burning. We had 160 persons displaced and one man suffered a fatal burn wound."
