Victims of escaped serial rapist fear he will strike again
Lungisani Mdlolo escaped between the holding cells & the court room ahead of sentencing yesterday.
JOHANNESBURG - Victims of an escaped killer and serial rapist have told Eyewitness News they're living in fear that he may return and take revenge on them.
Lungisani Mdlolo was due to be sentenced in the High Court in Palm Ridge on Tuesday, following his conviction on three counts of rape, one of murder and five of armed robbery.
It's believed Mdlolo, dubbed 'One Man', wasn't wearing leg irons while he was being moved between holding cells and the court room.
It's understood he had been terrorising the communities of Kliptown and Klipspruit in Soweto before his arrest in 2012.
Victims of the serial rapist say in the wake of his escape, they're being forced to relive the days when he terrorised their community.
One woman, who was robbed by Mdlolo and testified against him in his trial, says she went to many of his court appearances so she could watch him finally be convicted.
"We had to attend counselling. I am back to square one. The fear I had is now back."
Fellow victim Khensani Msibi says police must re-arrest him swiftly.
"Other people are in danger. I feel for the other witnesses more than I do for us."
Both women say now that Mdlolo is at large they feel their security has been compromised.
Its alleged Mdlolo targeted mainly female-headed homes and raped some of the women.
