2 arrested in date rape drug bust
The man and woman denied any knowledge of the drugs found in their truck valued at over R700,000.
JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police have arrested two people for drug possession in central Johannesburg after they were caught with more than 12,000 Rohypnol tablets, more popularly known as a date rape drug.
The 38-year-old man and 25-year-old woman denied any knowledge of the drugs found in their truck valued at over R700,000.
Rohypnol is commonly used to incapacitate a victim before they are raped.
The police's Hangwani Mulaudzi says a tip-off on Saturday led to the arrest.
"We have arrested two suspects, a Kenyan and a Somalian. We received information about a delivery of drugs in the Gauteng area. The delivery was made which led to the arrests."
The suspects are expected to appear in the Jeppe Magistrates Court tomorrow.
