CAPE TOWN - An alleged gangster affiliated to the Americans gang has been shot and killed outside a Mitchells Plain Primary School.

The shooting happened at around 7:30am yesterday while parents were dropping off their children at Spine View Primary School in Rocklands.

It's been reported two people sitting in a taxi parked nearby were also wounded in the incident.

The Mitchells Plain Community Policing Forum's Abie Isaacs says, "We condemn it in the strongest terms. It was in the early hours when parents needed to take children to school."

He requested the local community to come forward with information on the incident.

At the same time, the police have also received reports of gun battles between rival gangs in Hanover Park throughout the past two days.

A 28-year-old man was shot dead in Lugano Court last night.

No arrests have been made.

The incidents follow an initiative by authorities to clamp down on gang violence.

Last month, Cape Town authorities have moved into two of the city's most gang-stricken areas, Manenberg and Hanover Park.

Metro Police along with the South African Police Service traffic officials have saturated the areas.

Metro police have searched several men in various blocks of flats in Manenberg.

They found packets of unga, mandrax and dagga while searching bins in Hilda Court.

Armed police officers also searched a group of men in a car and an alleged Americans gang member for drugs and ammunition.
