Zapiro: Hofmeyr a self-confessed racist
The cartoonist says the singer deserved the outcome of an unprecedented case against Chester Missing.
JOHANNESBURG - Cartoonist Jonathan Shapiro, popularly known as "Zapiro", says Steve Hofmeyr is a self-confessed racist who deserved the outcome of an unprecedented case against a puppet.
The Randburg Magistrates Court on Thursday ruled Hofmeyr opened himself to criticism and therefore cancelled the protection order.
That order was issued against Koch earlier in November.
Zapiro said he still couldn't believe Hofmeyr managed to obtain the interim gag order.
"I couldn't believe Hofmeyr managed to find another magistrate earlier on who was prepared to give this interim gag order against a puppet for harassment on Twitter? That is surreal stuff."
Earlier, Koch described the musician's court action against him as "madness".
Hofmeyr had argued his reputation had been damaged.
CHESTER'S FACE SQUASHED
While Koch and Missing waited outside court to ask Hofmeyr's representative, Dan Roodt, why the singer didn't attend proceedings, he responded with anger.
Roodt squeezed the firm head of the puppet.
"Afrikaners are defamed and insulted, but they will not be shaken," Roodt said.
The ventriloquist said, "Dan couldn't take the heat and grabbed Chester and tried to squash him… Then we marched him out of court shouting 'Phansi racism, phansi!'."
Koch says the only reason Hofmeyr dragged him to court over their social media fight is because the Afrikaans singer tried to "make money out of racism".
